New Delhi: A video has now surfaced showing Shiv Sena Thane MP Rajan Vichare forcing a Maharashtra Sadan Muslim staffer to eat during his Ramzan fast. CNN-IBN has accessed footage which shows Vichare force feeding the staffer.
The video gives credence to the allegations that Shiv Sena MPs abused the employee and forced him to eat, even as the Shiv Sena continues to deny the claims. Shiv Sena MP Anant Geete in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday said that the claims being made by the Opposition are false.
"This is an auspicious month of Ramzan. Ramzan should be respected and would at least expect those who want to respect Ramzan not mislead the House," Geete said as the Opposition continued to oppose and demanded a discussion on the issue.
BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri allegedly assaulted another MP in the House over the issue, which was again followed by an uproar. Bidhuri later apologised for his conduct saying, "I regret if I have hurt the sentiments of the members of this House."
The Shiv Sena MPs were reportedly miffed at not being served Maharashtrian food at the Maharashtra Sadan. Within hours of the incident, the Indian Railways subsidiary that was catering for the Sadan, stopped all its operations in protest.
It has written to the Maharashtra Resident Commissioner saying the employee was 'deeply hurt'.
IRCTC sources said that this was not the only case but there have been other cases of abuse of staff too. "This isn't an isolated incident, we had complained about physical assault on the staffers on two other occasions in the past. We complained to the Resident Commissioner, but no action was taken, so we were left with no option but to withdraw services," sources said.
The Maharashtra Sadan has apologised to the employee.
